Scientific name: Bathyembryx istiophasma,
given by William Beebe.
Physical description: Torpedo-shaped fish, 2
feet in length. Pale olive-drab color. Small eye.
Large mouth. Long, wide, filamentous pectoral
fin. No luminous organs.
Distribution: North Atlantic Ocean.
Significant sighting: Observed only once, between
1,500 and 2,500 feet, by William Beebe
in a bathysphere off Bermuda in the early 1930s.
